25th Anniversary Tour – February 2004

Well, it’s one for the books. Our 25th anniversary tour to Barbados was the trip of a lifetime. Soon, we will be posting a photo gallery of our trip. In the meantime, here are some words from our captain, Ed Carr, with his reflection on the trip.

“Just some comments regarding our tour to Barbados. First of all thank you to my fellow Tour Administrators – job well done. Mostly though, thank you to each and every one of you who stepped up on the pitch. Quick review: first game a loss, 32 – 0. We did not play as badly as the score looks. There were many positives, and while we didn’t score we were knocking three or four times – just couldn’t get it over. However, as captain, I couldn’t have been more proud of the Grey team than in our second game. While a loss as well, 19 – 7, our opposition knew they were in a dogfight. The ultimate compliment was paid by the Barbados captain, saying to me, “You boys did your homework – adjusted your style of play and a great rugby game was played.” I couldn’t agree more. Every Grey participated and participated fully.

“A lot of camaraderie occurred on this trip as well, which only makes the bonds of our team that much tighter. Great Rookie Show, Kangaroo Court, a real shitty practice that opened our eyes, fantastic team activities along with funny spur-of-the-moment occurrences, wives’/girlfriends’ enthusiastic support, and a poignant moment when Sandy Woodard surprised all of us announcing his retirement. I can only hope in retirement from actively playing we can continue to count on Sandy’s involvement in club activities for many years to come.”
