Grey Giving

Stories about members of the Grey giving back to the local and worldwide community.

Hats to South Africa organized by Ed Carr

Dean, Bomber, and Bill - Please see below.  Nice message about the hats that
we gathered to send over to N. Ireland that eventually made their way to
South Africa.  Apparently very well received.  Dean/Bomber - your call as to
whether you want to put this on the website for teammates who participated,
or if you simply want to forward to the team.  In either case, they should
be aware of the good that we did.  OK, gotta go try on my new suit of armor.
Later, Ed

Good afternoon Ed,

We are just back from South Africa having stayed a bit longer. However would
just like to let you know that the baseball caps were a HUGE hit and
success. Please pass on and convey to all your friends - the many thanks on
behalf of the pupils, the headmaster and the other members of the staff
(some of which also benefited from a cap).

How a simple item can be so greatly received and much appreciated was
fantastic to witness. Melvin (the headmaster) called up and gave each and
every child their own individual cap (on Monday 14th April) having
subsequently told the gathered assembly from who, from were and why they had
been sent. There will be some photographs to follow - but in the meantime I
have been asked to simply thank all again who took a moment to look out and
send a cap.

Best regards,

Stewart

Coffey Shaves head for great cause. (and causes great alarm with his new look.)

Brendan writes "The St Baldrick's Foundation was founded in 1999 by 3 guys who were
looking  to give back to society.   They stumbled upon the idea of shaving
their heads.  This has cascaded into a world-wide event with this year
seeing over 18,000 people shaving their noggins, including close to 2,000
women,  in solidarity with kids who are suffering thru Cancer. The funds
raised go back into funding research.  If my bald picture doesn't scare
anyone away, I'd welcome you posting it."

Grey raise Money for Connecticut Jammers

From Jammers coach, our own Bud Harvey: "My thanks for the fine support from the team at the Jammers fundraiser at Christy's in New Haven on March 22, 2008. Thanks to your efforts and those of the New Haven Old Blacks, we got to honor Bob Chester and raise $1870.00 for the Jammers. You guys are the best!!!!"

In the World Cup Pool, a total of $210 was raised for the 50 - 50 split with The Jammers . Matty Leonard, son of our own Matt Leonard was the winner of the pool. Matty has graciously decided to also donate his half of the winnings to the Jammers, so they will get the whole $210. Thanks to the Leonard's for their generosity. The unveiling of Knucklehead Brewery's Grey Swill (in Dark Ale and Blueberry) was a great success. Many thanks to Brewmaster Chris Budzik for donating the beer, to the players who stuffed $246 in the boot, and to Mike Meyer and Townsend Meyer & Associates for their very generous donation of $400. That mean's we'll be sending Jammers's coach Bud Harvey a check for $646. So, in total, it looks as if the Jammers are receiving 856.00. Great job boys and roll on Jammers!

2007 Participants-The Jammers once again prevailed, 18-16.

Game Action.

2006

2004- The Connecticut Jammers, Gaylord Hospital's quad rugby club, burned up the hard court at New Horizons Village, retaining for the fourth year running the coveted Connecticut Sister Rugby Club Wheel with a 41 - 19 trashing of the visiting Connecticut Grey. Despite their effective use of the long throw in, the Grey were thwarted by the Jammers' honed blocking skills. Time and time again, the Jammers created narrow lanes in the key that they were able to exploit seemingly at will.
