FRIDAY GOLF Tony Johnson has made all the arrangements for golf this Friday at Keeney Park Golf Course in North Hartford. If you haven't received details directly from Tony and would still like to play, contact him at johnsaw@NU.COM. SAD NEWS FROM BOSTON I am sorry to report the passing of Tom "Doc" Durant of the Beacon Hill RFC and Boston Unicorns, after a long battle with cancer. Beacon Hill Dinosaur Steve Durant writes the following: October 30, 2001 Dr. Tom "Doc" Durant died early this morning of complications secondary to his 13 year battle with prostate cancer. He was 73. My brother, Sean, was with him when he died. His death was a relief and a blessing as over the last two months particularly, his condition was most difficult. My entire family wishes to convey its most profound appreciation for the numerous friends, colleagues, and well-wishers who sent us and him, their kind thoughts, flowers, notes, cards, gifts & prayers throughout my father's ordeal. My father was blessed with GREAT friends and GREAT medical & nursing care at MGH and we will be eternally grateful for the love shown to him by those great people. The wake will be held at Mulry's Funeral Home off of Dorchester Avenue across from St. Mark's Church in Dorchester from 4-8 Wednesday & Thursday. The funeral will be at St. Mark's this Friday at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the development office at MGH for the Durant Refugee Medicine Fellowship Fund. Check the papers and particularly Wednesday's Boston Globe for more details and an article by Brian Mooney. My dad loved you and we love you. The Durants [Steve's e-mail address is dinoRFC@aol.com - ed.] RUGGERS SALE Ruggers is running their annual fall clearance sale. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The time for our AGM is fast approaching. We have been fortunate enough to have terrific hosting the last two years (the Bouviers and Flynns, respectively). Tradition dictates that this be a family affair on a Sunday afternoon. My dance card is pretty full right now but I show the 9th and the 16th of December free. I would like to shoot for the 9th unless there are any serious objections. Do we have someone who would love to host the gang? The club will supply the drinks and we will "pot-luck" the nibblies. If interested in hosting, let me know. If not, I'll book The Old Dublin. There will be a nearly wholesale turnover on the Executive Committee. Skipper John Kerr, Social Secretary Bert Romeo and yours truly will not be seeking re-election. Plus, the position of Treasurer is currently vacant. The incumbent Executive Committee is working to develop a slate of candidates for your consideration but we would love to hear from you if you are interested in helping the club in ways other than merely turning up to play the occasional match. Dean Jorgensen, President ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET Save the date -- Saturday, January 26. We'll be convening again at the Waverly Tavern in Cheshire for our annual bash. Stay tuned for details. FORT LAUDERDALE IN FEBRUARY This looks like a good whoring opportunity for those of you in need of a mid-winter break. Forwarded unedited: Gentlemen, I am forwarding to you a formal invitation to our 26th annual spring tournament. I recently attended the Aspen tournament which was great rugby, I am certain that we can rival that event. Think about it, Feb 23&24 in Ft Lauderdale will probably be 65-80 temp. compared to zero or teens in most of the country. So it will be great rugby weather and you could use a break from all that cold, so come on down and go to the beach! Check out the local thongs, how about some deep sea fishing or a side trip to the Florida Keys or South Beach for some prime night life. How about teams? Last year Manhattan Les Vieux, South Jersey Old Boys, White Plains, Philly Whitemarsh, Miami Old Gold, Boca Raton and Ft Lauderdale had 45 old boys in attendance. It was a great tournament and this years will be even better so rally the troops and get a jump start on your spring season and play some fun rugby at the same time. We will provide you any style game you want, full contact or golden oldies style or anything in between. Don't have a full side? not to worry, whoring will be aplenty and we will help you get a team together if you are short, remember we had 45 players last year and will have more this year. Regards, Mike Resta, littleman Ft Lauderdale old boy organizer LittleManMR@aol.com AUSTRALIAN GOLDEN OLDIES Yet more opportunities to drink beer and play old boys rugby in exotic parts.
